John McCarthy 1873-1950 ( recorded here), was born in Knocknagreana, Old Pallas, Co. Limerick on the 18th Apr 1873 to parents Denis McCarthy 1837-1907 & Catherine Barry 1837-1905. His siblings included Timothy McCarthy 1868-1938, Denis 1870, Anne 1876, twins Patrick & William 1879 & James 1883.

John McCarthy 1873-1950 married Ellen Hayes 1873-1964 ( recorded here) daughter of Michael Hayes 1833-1917 & Hanora  (Nora) Birrane 1831-1909 of Knockaundoolis, Templebredon, Co. Limerick on the 8th Jan 1894 in Emly RC, Co. Tipperary. Ellen Hayes was born on the 8th Mar 1873.

Anne (Annie) McCarthy  (1894 -  ) , married William (Bill) Mulcahy  (1892 -   ), son of John Mulcahy & Johanna Harty of Nicker, Pallasgrean, Co. Limerick on the 6th Apr 1913 in Templebredon RC. Both are recorded at memorial  LI-OPLS-332  in Old Pallas cemetery, Co. Limerick.

Denis  (Den)  McCarthy 1896-1971  married  Kate  Beary ( 1896 -   ),  daughter of  Laurence Beary 1864-1938  &  Hanora  Commons 1868-1947 of  Tiermanagh, Templebredon, Co. Limerick on the 31st Mar 1918 in Templebredon RC. Denis predeceased his wife and died at number 9 Nicker, Pallasgrean, Co. Limerick on the 24th May 1971.  Denis  McCarthy, his wife Kate  &  daughter  Ellen ( Nellie ) were interred  with  his  grandson  James  McCarthy  1951-1969  at  memorial  0023 in  this cemetery, though  their  names  are  not  recorded  on the  memorial.  NB. Michael Joseph McCarthy 1898-1977 emigrated to the UK and married Florence Wilson, nee Walsh 1888-1962 on the 16th Sep 1920 in Salford , Lancashire, UK. Children were Ellen McCarthy 1921-2000,  John 1923-1974 & Thomas 1926-2013.

David  (Bob) McCarthy 1900-1975 emigrated to New York, USA in Jan 1930. His left arm was amputated in Oct 1930 at Long Island College Hospital, NY after he survived an accident where both his arms had been caught in a cement mixer. He married widow Mary Bridget Ellis, nee Murphy 1904-1981, daughter of Patrick Murphy 1876-1955 & Hanora Hayes 1875-1950 of Ballyrobin, Cullen, Co. Tipperary. Mary Bridget was first married to John Ellis 1904-1927, who died of tuberculosis in Killeennagallive, Templebredon parish, Co. Limerick on the 19th Sep 1927. John Ellis is recorded at memorial 0100 in this cemetery. His widow, Mary emigrated to New York, USA in Feb 1929  and married David (Bob) McCarthy in Brooklyn on the 31st Mar 1931. They had three daughters, (a) Mary Ellen McCarthy 1933-2014 who married firstly to Stephen John (Sonny) Hickey 1930-1997 in 1953 and secondly to James Edward Greer  1928-1971 about 1961, (b) Norah Patricia McCarthy 1935-1989 who married firstly to Thomas E (Midgie) Byrnes 1929-1982 and secondly to John R Sabourin in 1973, (c) Catherine Ann (Judy) McCarthy 1943-2000 who married NYPD policeman John Patrick (Moe) Maloney 1940-2017 in Brooklyn in 1963. Both Bob McCarthy & his wife Mary were interred in St Charles cemetery, Farmingdale, Nassau, NY, 16 Z 114.

Mary McCarthy 1902-1993, of this memorial, was born on Oct 1st 1902. She was an accomplished dressmaker,

John McCarthy 1905- 1923. Born Jan 1st 1905 & died 8th Dec 1923. No cause of death was recorded on his death certificate.

Catherine (Kit) McCarthy 1907-1994, married Michael Mackey 1896-1987, son of Andrew Mackey 1841-1916 & Mary Hartnett 1854-1951 of Mongfune, Abington, Co. Limerick on the 20th Nov 1926 in Templebredon RC, Co. Limerick. Both died at Ballyvouneen, Cappamore, Co. Limerick and were interred at memorial LI-MFBL-0044 in Ballinure cemetery, Mongfune, Abington, Co. Limerick.

Hanora  (Nora) McCarthy 1909-1959, married Wiliam (Bill) Beary 1905-1971, son of  Laurence Beary 1864-1938 & Hanora Commons 1868-1947 of Tiermanagh, Templebredon, Co. Limerick on the 18th Jan 1933 in Templebredon RC. Nora was a district midwife. She died, aged 49 of leukemia. Both were interred in Ballinaclough cemetery near Barna, Pallasgrean, Co. Limerick. Their daughter Mary taught at Emly NS, Co. Tipperary for a number of years and their son Larry & his wife Peggy Horan were publicans in Knockane, Co. Limerick and later at Dundon’s Cross, near Pallasgrean, Co. Limerick.

Ellen ( Nellie) McCarthy 1917-2001, married Timothy (Timmy) McEniry 1919-1996, son of  Timothy McEniry 1875-1957 & Anne Reardon 1881-1963 of Clashdrumsmith, Emly, Co. Tipperary on the 5th Nov 1937 in Templebredon RC. Both died at Ballyvouden, Kilteely, Co. Limerick and were interred at memorial LI-KTLY-0002 in Kilteely cemetery, Co. Limerick.
