James Fitzgerald 1876-1918, son of John Fitzgerald 1824-1880 & Margaret McGrath 1836-1909 of Kildromin, Kilteely, Co. Limerick, married Ellen O'Dwyer 1873-1929 (of this memorial), daughter of Denis O'Dwyer 1825-1885 & Mary Birrane 1834-1890 of Garrydoolis, Templebredon, Co. Limerick on the 22nd Feb 1905 in Templebredon RC. Ellen was a sub postmistress in Garrydoolis. Her husband, James Fitzgerald was interred at memorial LI-KTLY-0139 in Kilteely cemetery, Co. Limerick. Children born to them included Mary Bridget Fitzgerald 1906-1982, Margaret 1907, John Paul 1908-1949, Johanna 1909, Ellen 1911, Denis 1913-1988 & Rev. James J 1914-1951.
John Paul Fitzgerald 1908-1949, emigrated to New York, USA in Nov 1926 where his uncle Martin Fitzgerald was resident. He became a US citizen on Jan 16th 1933.
. He was living at 600 East 125th St Wards Island, NY when he joined the US Marine Corps on the 29th Jul 1942. Attained the rank of Sergeant with the Hq & Hq Squadron 320th Services Group. Discharged on the 12th Jun 1945. Service number was 32415689. Was interred in St Thomas cemetery, 55 Altair Ave, Litchfield, CT, USA.
Rev. James J Fitzgerald 1914-1951, known as Fr. Jimmy, was interred in Holy Cross cemetery in San Diego, California, USA.
Mary Bridget Fitzgerald 1906-1982, died unmarried at Garrydoolis.
Johanna Fitzgerald, b. 1909, became a nun and was known as Sr. Majella.
Denis Fitzgerald 1913-1988, a farmer & shopkeeper in Garrydoolis, married Mary O'Mahoney, who was interred here on Wed 18th Mar 2009. Mary taught at Cappamore Vocational School, Co. Limerick for a number of years as well as running the shop and post office in Garrydoolis with her husband Denis. Denis purchased the farm of Terence Hogan 1901-1960 in the nearby townland of Knockalegan.Their son Jimmy Fitzgerald (recorded here) died on the 16th May 2004 and their daughter Rita Kelly; of adjacent memorial 0005, died on the 30th Dec 2018. The Fitzgerald family farm, totalling 80 acres, was sold in May 2022 for 1.215 million euros
Catherine ( Katie) O'Dwyer 1876-1921 (recorded here), a sister of Ellen Fitzgerald, nee O'Dwyer 1873-1929, married fellow Primary School teacher Michael B O'Donnell 1874-1938 (recorded here), son of Michael & Anne O'Donnell of Kilduff, Pallasgreen, Co. Limerick on the 19th May 1903 in Templebredon RC. Children born to them included Mary O'Donnell 1904, Anne 1905, Catherine 1907, Aileen Mary 1909-1961 (recorded here) & Sarah 1911. All except the eldest Mary, who was born in Garrydoolis, were born in Kilmallock, Co. Limerick, where their father was teaching. The family were living at Sheres St, Kilmallock, Co. Limerick in the 1911 census.
