HERE LYETH THE BODY OF ALDERMAN FRANS WHEELER WHO PARTED THIS LIFE YE 4th OF 8BER 1738 & IN THE 79™ YEARE OF HIS AGE
A large R.S. now reused as paving. The Ins. is in low false relief. Four socket holes occur in the surface of the stone and one of these retains part of the metal plug. The monument may have been made from a reused slab and is roughly tooled. There may have been part of an earlier very worn Ins. in the lower right hand comer where traces of letters occur. The four holes may originally have held metal bars or rings. The use of the "8" to represent October also occurs on Nos. 290 and 316. It is possible that this is Fleetwood Berry's (1912 A) "FRANCIS MHEETER". See also No. 10(L).
