Notes:

This is a large R.S. slab which has been set in the floor of the church. The upper right and lower middle sections of the stone have been heavily pocked over. The upper right segment also bears some highly burnished natural cup-marks which are traditionally pointed out as the holes left by the hooves of the horses of the Cromwellian soldiers who stabled them here in the 17th century! This tradition has also been applied to No. 398 (a Lynch stone). The bottom right hand comer bears some modem pocking and tracks produced by a stone saw or angle grinder, perhaps in an attempt to remove mortar from the surface. The lettering is well cut and is in false relief.
