Notes: 

A large monument with a stepped base. The top is a granite obelisk and rests on a square, moulded plinth which is carved on each side. The base is of limestone and is also moulded. The East side bears a skull and crossbones with the words "MOMENTO MORI" carved in relief. The West side bears a carving of the Irish harp. The North side bears a symbol of Claddagh - two hands holding the crowned heart (like the Claddagh ring) and the South side bears the Galway city arms (a galleon with an escutcheon bearing a lion rampant). There is no shield. Beneath these carvings a Latin inscription is incised on the marble section on the North side. It is given in English underneath this.
