Here lieth the body of the Revd Simon Barlow
Roman Catholic pastor of the united parishes
of Saggard, Rathcoole, and Newcastle;
who departed this life the 25th day of September 1794
aged 76 years
In the vigour of youth he renounced the world
and its prospects, to embrace the rigour and
severity of the clerical state; during a
period of 32 years he edified the flock
committed to his care, by his punctual
discharge of every Christian & social duty
To a primitive simplicity of manners
he joined the most solid strenght & penetration
of mind. Charitable without ostentation, and
always feeling for the distresses of his
people, he carried with him to the grave no other
riches than those of their tears and affections.
Requiescat in Pace.
