Sacred
to the memory
of
Henry Norman Pearce
aged 21
also Ellen Cox
aged 19
both accidentally drowned
in Cork Beg Dock
July 27th 1918
My mother remembered it as a young girl in the village. The tragedy took place a few feet from the shore but a few hundred yards from the village. The victims could be heard crying out for help as the sea was as calm as a mill pond but sadly they were lost before help arrived. It is suggested that one was in the boat and the other stood on the side getting in and overturned it.
