- - - MOYNES • WHO DIE[D] THE • 2D • DAY • OF MA[Y] 16[7-] or 1685 Probably as follows originally HERE LYETH THE BODY OF WILLIAM MOYNES WHO DIED THE 2D DAY OF MAY 1685
This part of a reused gravestone has been cut into a square and fitted into the East wall of the Blessed Sacrament Chapel near the altar, where it now acts as the basin stone of a piscina. Only part of the Ins. (cut in low false relief), survives. The centre of the stone has been worked to form a circular disc-like depression [19 cm in diam.] at the centre of which there is a perforation [3 cm in diam.]. On either side of the depression a shallow rectangular recess has been cut which measures 5 cms by 16 cms. Some decoration seems to have occurred but this cannot now be clearly interpreted. The side of the stone carries a moulding (an original feature) while the upper and lower edges have been cut with an angle grinder. The lower rim of the moulding along with part of the underside have been lightly retooled. The basin itself is modem, is lightly tooled and has a modem drilled perforation. The shallow rectangular recesses are probably original features of the design.
