TO THE MEMORY OF LIEU1, COLL GEO. LENOX DAVIS C.B. INSPECTING FIELD OFFICER OF THE LIVERPOOL RECRUITING DISTRICT, WHO SERVED FOR 44 YEARS IN THE 9th REGt, AND DIED, A FEW DAYS AFTER RESIGNING ITS COMMAND ON THE 14™ APRIL 1852, AGED 61 YEARS, THIS TABLET IS ERECTED BY THE OFFICERS OF THAT CORPS, AS A MARK OF THEIR ESTEEM. TO THE SERVICE OF HIS COUNTRY, IN THE PENINSULA (WHERE HE WAS TAKEN PRISONER), ON THE MOUNTAINS OF AFGHANISTAN, AND ON THE HARD-FOUGHT FIELD OF SOBRAON, HE STROVE TO ADD THE BETTER SERVICE OF A FAITHFUL SOLDIER OF THE LORD JESUS.

We regret to announce the sudden demise of this highly respected officer (late of the 9th Regt.) which took place in this town on Tuesday last from an attack of bronchitis, Lieut. Col. Davis was highly distinguished".

This is an inscribed wall plaque. A scroll-like tablet of white marble is attached to a black limestone base. At the top there is a dove with a wreath in its beak. Beneath the inscription is a crest enclosed within a garter. The garter is inscribed with the following inscription "SEMPAR PA--TUS". The broken segment of the word may read "RA" giving the full motto as "PARATUS" (Prepared) Fairbairne's gives this as the motto of Fraser, Sword and Swourd familes. The crest itself consists of a bird standing above a peaked crown. The monument is inscribed with the words "Kirk Fecit”.
