Clare, Sculptors, of this town have been engaged in erecting a monument at the West side of the Churchyard of St. Nicholas, over the remains of the late members of the Mitchell family. One block is about four and a half feet high, over which is another square of marble about three feet high; one side bearing the names of the deceased members. Amongst them and last, is the name of George Miller, of this town, who died about eight months since. Over all is a round pillar, about seven feet high and having some beautiful and ornamental work at the top, marking the entire height of the monument about 14 feet. It is an elaborate piece of work and reflects credit on every one concerned." The Connaught Journal. November 5th. (1832), David Mitchell (Long obituary). The Galway Mercury. January 23rd.
