Inscribed mensa or ledger c.1543 The upper half of a rectangular slab, the mensa of an altar-tomb or a ledger, decorated with a seven-armed segmented ringed cross with geometric fleur-de-lis terminals. The cross-head rises from a shaft which is knobbed at its top. Streamers flank either side of the shaft. A marginal inscription in false relief Latin black-letter reads: H - QUI OBIT + XIIII DIE MARTIS ---- MCCCCC XLIII OCTOBER Translation: H[ere lies] who died 13th March 1543 October
