Sir Valentine Blake, 14th Baronet, of Menlo Castle, was born on 2nd December 1836. Sir Valentine was a JP for Co. Galway and, in 1872, served as High Sheriff for the county. On 26th July 1910, the Blake family residence of Menlo Castle was burnt down. Sir Valentine's eldest daughter Eleanor was one of three women killed in the tragedy.
