John Switzer was the oringinal ancestor of the current Switzer family in the area and his family was one of the 5 original Palatine families that came to ‘Palatine St ‘ in The Commons as tenants of the Barker Ponsonby Estate of Kilcooley Abbey in the 1770’s . He was also ancestor of the Switzer family that owned the famous Switzer store on Grafton St , Dublin ( now Brown Thomas )
