“Here lie the mortal remains of Peter Ryan Esq, late of Danganmore in this County. A Gentleman whose public course was marked by genuine patriotism and whose private life was distinguished by every quality that excells human nature. He departed this life August the 31st 1828 aged 79 years to the great grief of his family and the unfeigned grief of his mindfull friends and acquaintences. Also deposited beneath this stone are the remains of his daughter Anne Ryan aged 17 years. His father John Ryan aged 86 and his brothers Edward and James Ryan, the former aged 51 and latter 30 years. Resquiescant in Pace”.
This stone commemorates John Ryan of Danganmore who as a young man fought with the Irish Brigade on the side of the French in the battle of Fontenoy 1745 see attached story.
