2nd son of the late

JONATHAN CLERKE ESQ MD

of this town

He served with distinction through

The peninsula campaigns

Under the Duke of Wellington

And was severely wounded at the storming

Of the Castle of Badajos having previously

Taken part in several of the

Principal engagements of the war

He died in Dublin

On the 17th of January 1870 aged 74 years

And his remains

Rest in the adjoining church yard

This tablet is erected

in affectionate remembrance
