According to the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, Dennis Lucey, Service No. 1796949, was resident at Model Village, Tower, when he enlisted. His parents were Denis and Annie.  He was a sergeant and air gunner in the 550 Squadron of the RAF Volunteer Reserve at the time of his death. In early 1944 this squadron was moved to RAF North Killingholme, Lincolnshire, where it continued operations until May 1945. According to the 550 Squadron Association website, F/O A C Lockyer and his crew of six, including D. Lucey, were shot down while on a training exercise by an intruder (Fw Rudi Morenz from 1V.NJG2), over the Humber estuary at 18:00 on 17th March, 1945. Theirs was the last Bomber Command aircraft to be shot down over the UK iduring the war. There was only one surviver, the flight engineer, Sgt T. Drawbridge. According to Liam Lyons, Canovee, Sgt Lucey's parents are also buried here. Denis Lucey's mother was Annie Brown Lucey and her family, the Browns, came from Bawnatemple. Anne Lucey died 3rd May 1965, her husband was Denis Lucey Snr. and another son was Cornelius Lucey who died 6th Aug. 1979.
