In June 1807 R. Nettles leased part of Mahallagh to J. Dunn (document in Belfast Public Record Office, D. 350, 41-42). In the Tithe Applotments for Canovee (1833) Cornelius Dunne is recorded as holding 79 Irish acres in Nettleville worth £59.6.0. Griffith's Valuation (1852) lists Jeremiah Dunne as leasing house, offices and land worth £47.15.0 from Robert Nettles in Mahallagh. Michael Dunne is listed as leasing a house and office worth £1.5.0 in Killinardrish.

Both Cornelius and John mentioned on the gravestone would have been buried in this grave. Other people buried here include: Cornelius's son Jeremiah, Killinardrish, who died in 6th May 1899; his wife Ellen, nee Coughlan, Dunne, Killinardrish, age 50, died 23rd January 1882; their sons; John, born 30th July 1865, worked as a doctor in Africa and London, living at 218 Southamton Street, Camberwell, before dying at home with his family in Killinardrish on 18th June 1905; Jeremiah (Darby) Dunne, Killinardrish, born on17th August 1867 and died 11th March 1914; Cornelius (Neilus) Dunne, Mahalough, born 9th May 1858, died 20th January 1932; and his wife Nora, nee Hurley, born 22nd Feb.1872, died 4th October 1937. Neilus and Nora had six children, three died as babies, John 1904, Eileen 1905 and Con 1908, who may be buried in this grave.

According to Mary Riordan, Carriganima, her grandparents Jeremiah and Ellen Dunne, Rooves Beg, were buried in this grave. Their family, son John died in 1969 aged 72, daughter Kate died in 1971 aged 78 and daughter Anne who died in October 1982 aged 78 were also buried here.

Another branch of the Dunne family lived in the Macroom area. Among those buried here were John Dunne Ballyverane, who died aged 73 and his nephew Denis Dunne, Umera, died 1963. Information from John's grandson, Michael Dunne, Macroom. 

Church records for the Dunne family in Canovee parish record the baptism of Micl Dunn, son of Pat Dunn and Mary Kelly of Moholoc was baptised on 12 June, 1830. Also included is 'Elizabth' of Muhalock on 28 August 1831, daughter of Con Dunn and Nancy Collins. Mary Dunn, daugher of  Patt Dunn and Mary Reilly of Kilanardrish was baptised on 15th August, 1834. Also included is Joan, daughter of Micl Dunn and Joan Carroll of Moholoch on 10th December 1835; one of the sponsors was Jerh Dunn.
