This plaque is cemented onto the base of headstone No 13.
Dick Cronin, No. 2 on headstone, had three sisters and two brothers. Two of the sisters were nuns, probably buried with their communities, the other sister didnt marry so was buried in Canovee. The two brothers Dan and Jack are buried here.
Dick's father, Denis (Denny Dick) died early leaving a young family of 6. His wife was Abbey McCarthy from Clashinaffrin. They are both buried here. Denny Dick had three brothers who were involved in cattle dealing. One bought a farm in Courtbrack and has decendants in that area today. He and some of his family are buried here. Another brother bought a farm in Scart, on left of road to Aherla. This man had a family that included two sons, Denis and Dan.
The old photo of the famous Cloughduv Hurling Team who won the Beamish Shield in 1912 includes Dick, Jack and Dan, Inchirahilly, and their cousins Denis and Dan from Scart.
Denis moved to Upton and his decendants still live around the area. Dan wasn't married, he and his parents were buried in Canovee. A third brother of Denny Dick had a farm in Aherla; he was married with one daughter but he died young and is probably buried here. His widow sold the farm and emigrated to America with her daughter.
This information comes from Dick Cronin, Inchirahilly, grandson of Richard and Ellen on the headstone.
