Prominent landholders named Sullivan are listed in Griffith's Valuation (1852), but none of them bear the Christian name James. According to the Tithe Applotment Books for Canovee (1833) a Patrick Sullivan of 'Coodrum' (Cooldrum) held 44 Irish acres worth £28.12.0 and he may be the father of James commemorated here. This man may also be a Timothy Sullivan who held 30 acres worth £26.1.6 in Classes; the same man or another of the same name held 86 acres £79.4.0 in Monallig.
