Pray for the soul of Morier
taugh Fitz Patrick who
dyed August the 23rd 1723
and his wife Ellen Browne
and their posterity
This very fine example of a heraldic slab shows the conjoined coats of arms of Mutragh Fitzpatrick and Browne with the crest of Fitzpatrick showing a lion and a dragon in combat above the escutcheon. A scroll for a motto occurs below the oval escutcheon. The inscription bears the date 1720 by which time heraldic sculpture had become rare in Galway and was not revived until the 19th century.
